Essential Supplements for Autoimmunity

I’ve been dealing with two autoimmune conditions for 20 years now. It took me almost ten years to figure out what exactly I was dealing with. It took me another decade to understand what were critical triggers as well as good behaviors. For me, gluten and stress seem to be the major triggers.

Regardless of what condition(s) you are dealing with I have found that the following supplements can really help in reducing inflammation:

  • Turmeric: fresh, organic turmeric taken with black pepper. The piperine in black pepper helps you absorb more curcumin. I make tiny slices of turmeric, sprinkle black pepper and combine with some organic olive oil)
  • Fish or algal oil supplement: omega-3 fatty acids are critical in brain function, but also in reducing inflammation. Make sure you select a high quality product that is tested for heavy metals.
  • CBD or CBDa drops: make sure that you are buying a high quality product that is direct from flower, not isolate or distillate which removes all of the phytonutrients in processing.
  • Vitamin D3: most Americans are deficient in this critical vitamin that functions as a hormone.

Of course, there are key behavioral changes involved in lowering inflammation including eating well (mostly plants and grass-fed meat or small, wild fish), consistently sleeping well, and reducing stress. However, these are the top supplements that I have found to be extremely beneficial while dealing with autoimmune conditions.
